KRINITSI
We were commissioned to create a textile wall artwork for a client's home in Krinitsi.
We began with a site visit to gain an understanding of the client's feelings, house atmosphere and design preferences.
The house is modern and industrial, with the use of materials such as wood, concrete and black iron.
We identified motifs with circular and harmonious shapes in the interior design of the house and decided to incorporate the color palette and shapes into the textile wall art for the client.
The location of the artwork on the central wall of the staircase allows
a gradual reveal of the creation while ascending the stairs, providing
a dynamic experience starting from the lower floor.
The wall art consists of two fabrics hanging half dropped side by side. The fabrics are printed with a handcrafted gradient effect, transitioning from
a dark charcoal to a reflective surface exposing the natural tone and texture of the fabric which adds warmth.
On the gradient surface, we placed
a circle that divides asymmetrically into the two fabrics. We played with the composition of the circle, creating
a visual effect where it seems to deconstruct and reconstruct into
a complete shape from different perspectives within the house.
Through labor-intensive manual work,
we exposed sections along the fabric, creating a transparency effect and
a play of missing-completing the circle.
Additionally, we handwoven tassels to soften the modern industrial look, adding a natural and gentle touch to the overall aesthetic.
